Adult Learners’ Week is a campaign which combines national promotion with local action. The campaigns offers adults the chance tohave a go at learning something new by trying out one of the hundreds of free taster sessions that happen across Wales during the week, and an opportunity for learning providers to showcase their provision. If you are a provider of adult learning you will want to make the most of the Adult Learners’ Week campaign, by organizing your own special events. “Never before has there been such a need for adult training and up-skilling. The UK is currently experiencing a skills shortage that is holding us back from competing in the world-wide economy. For this reason, we need the millions of adults who, for whatever reason, cannot read or write or add up properly, to be able to do so with confidence so that they can get on the ladder of a fulfilling career with real prospects, and also help their employer’s business succeed. As the UK’s Skills Envoy, it is my job to raise awareness among employers in the public and private sector to take forward the skills agenda. We must encourage employers to take more time in creating training opportunities for employees, and the Government must pay for it. But everyone has a part to play and that’s why I wholeheartedly support Adult Learner’s Week as each year it opens the door of opportunity to learning for many, many people for whom learning would simply pass them by.”  Sir Digby Jones
